We had some tendency on the list lately to include bitops.h and use BIT(n)
instead of 1 << n. Jonathan, is it "planned" to switch to that style for the
whole IIO subsystem? If so, it would safe some cleanup to implement it already
in new drivers.

Also put some a whitespace around operators here.

After calling your error/return value ret before, it would be more consistent
to do the same here.
