Correct, but that could be for many reasons - unsupported card, wrong
driver chosen, etc.

Check that the card is listed in
/etc/e-smith/pcitable
/usr/share/kudzu/pcitable
Run:
/sbin/lspci
And for more than you want to know:
cat /proc/pci
