Hello everyone,
First let me say thanks for the e-smith product. As someone who has used most of
the appliances and or software in this field for some time, e-smith is a breath
of fresh air (I have used the Qube, Netwinder, NetMax, and home spun solutions
using Redhat and Webmin). Anyway, since all the emails on the list today seem to
be about raid, I thought I would throw in my question. I remember reading on the
message boards that someone at e-smith was going to try out one of 3ware's IDE
RAID controller cards to see how it worked with e-smith. The drivers are open
source and I believe they are in the 2.2 kernel series (which BTW which kernel
does 4.1 beta2 use 2.2.16, or higher?). I checked back and I did not see a
response as to the success.
My first question, did it work, and would e-smith support a system on this
controller?
Second, I recently found what I believe to be a great motherboard to make
turnkey e-smith systems. The Tyan Tiger 200 (s2505) board is a dual socket 370
board with dual Intel ethernet, onboard ATI video, and integrated Promise
Technology FastTrak100 IDE RAID. I checked Promises website and they have
drivers out for Redhat 6.2/7.0 in both uniprocessor and SMP modes. The
installation procedure they outline seems simple enough. Any thoughts?
Thanks for any insight. Looking forward to 4.1 (I already ordered the ISO of
beta1 from Cheapbytes and are hoping they actually send me beta2)
