do a 
chmod 755 /etc/fetchmail 
don't know why it affects the permission of the file. Any Ideas Charlie?

I've done this but noe I get the error
/etc/startmail: /etc/fetchmail: Permission denied

and fetchmail no longer fetches the mail

How do I reset it to collect email?  I'll live with the 
dots for now
