Hi,

Me again!

I put the server in question (Mail - be good everyone!) into server and =
gateway mode.

Made sure that the correct net cards were assigned to the correct duties =
(As I could ping correctly).

And then rebooted.

Now I could get into the manager using a SSH tunnel to port 980 ok.

The problem is this. Even with the mail retrieval set to "Public" no =
machines inside our internal router can get to it. So I assume as can't =
any other machines on the net - to download IMAP and POP mail that is. =
As our internal router as far as e-smith si concerned should be the same =
as any other machine on the "net".

Why is this so?

If the machine is in server and gateway - I must be able to get at the =
email system when "public" is set. I even rebooted the server in case =
the hot change was somehow broken. I also rebooted my PC - the client =
to make sure. Not that it matters as the IP is still the same.

Basically in outlook - I would not get a "can't connect error". It =
would just sit as if it was downloading a 1000000 TB file over a 2400 =
baud modem.

Netscape was the same - but it eventually gave up saying the server must =
be down.

I know I am missing something here - and I know that I am at fault - =
some help would be nice. :)

Cheers,
Richard.
