There is a program called Partition Image (www.partimage.org) that might be
what you need/want.

Partition Image is a Linux/UNIX partition imaging utility: it saves
partitions in the Ext2FS, ReiserFS, NTFS or FAT16/32, file system formats to
an image file.

Only used blocks are copied, therefore saving space. The image file can be
compressed in the GZIP/BZIP2 formats to save disk space, and split into
multiple files to be copied on floppies (ZIP for example), or burned on a
CD-R. This allows you to save a full Linux/Windows system, with an only
operation. When problems, such as viruses or crashes occur, you just have to
restore, and after several minutes, all your system is restored, and fully
working

It is available in most formats and is from 300k to 400k (the rpm is
387k).
If you try it please let me know what you think.

Thanks
Craig

P.S. You could try Norton Ghost (a dos program - no flames please), it can
read Ext2FS and you can chose between a disk or partitions to backup.
