Ok, then to put all the pieces discussed together, one may create:
/etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/smb.conf/12PasswordChat
with the following:
# Added to sync Windows/Samba/Unix passwords
unix password sync = Yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n *Retype*new*UNIX*password* %n\n
*Enter*new*UNIX*password* %n\n *Retype*new*UNIX*password* %n\n
*passwd:*all*authentication*tokens*updated*successfully*
The passwd chat = line being all one line. (It looks to simply insert
this into the middle of the default smb.conf line 95 entry)
*Enter*new*UNIX*password* %n\n *Retype*new*UNIX*password* %n\n
then expand the template, restart samba.
How's this look to everyone? Anyone able to test and confirm this works?
