If the laptop is on DHCP that may be the problem.

See if there is an error in the smb.log about cannot get hostname for 10.x.x.x (the Ip
of your laptop)

# tail /var/log/samba/log.smb
2001/09/07 12:42:04, 1] lib/util_sock.c:client_name(1007)
  Gethostbyaddr failed for 10.x.x.x

If so then the easy fix is to add it to the /etc/hosts file (via the hosts
e-smith-manager - hosts webpage)

The better fix is to add a reverse IP lookup to your DNS server.

either way you should not need to reboot or restart.

I just had this problem this morning.
