Although I fully agree that you_made_this_mistake_happen and deserve a 
good kick in the #$%, I believe the above statment may be incorrect.

The install does an OS level repartition and reformat of the drive.  It 
then overwrites some areas of the drive during the rpm install process.  
It does not wipe the entire drive.  Data stored on the drive outside of 
the areas overwritten are generally recoverable.

There are many data recovery labs that can recover data from just this 
situation and most offer a no charge evaluation service.  If your data is 
of critical importantance to you, it is worth a try to contact a data 
recovery lab and discuss your situtation before you give up hope.

Do an Internet search on data recovery to find the lab closest to you.
