Hello, I'm running sophos sweep on a e-smith 4.1.2 server without any problems since half a year with .ide updates every hour. To run sophos for mail scanning I use amavis = A Mail Virus Scanner, see www.amavis.org I'm using amavis 0.2.1 !!!!!! not amavisd or amavis-perl. I follwed strictly the installation manual of amavis. The advantage by using amavis ist, that you can integrate a few virus scanner - if you have licensed more than one, each email will be scanned of all installed virus scanner. The disadvantage is, that you have to compile the package. I had to install a compiler. For that I found a description on the e-smith board what you have to install to compile and use ./configure etc.
I closed the access (from inside the e-smith network to other provider) on port 25 (smtp) and 110 (pop3), disabled the access to external webmail provider with the squid-proxy and enabled S-POP and S-SMTP worldwide. Since 5 month of running that I rejected 50 emails containing viruses. The users are happy and I'm still reading my newspaper when the radio station reports 'a new virus'.
