there is a way as i store my mailfolders in ~/Maildir/ with squirrelMail
it was a pain, i can't remember what i did and i use courier anyway

chroot them to ~/home

chroot options for the ProFTPd ftp server

When users FTP into the sme server they are allowed to view ibays,
primary and some system information
By chrooting the user you restrict the user to below that directory
