No, there are several mechanisms, and the one you suggest isn't one.
Connecting to another node does not allow it to "discover" you, in the
sense that it might then start connecting to you. The node makes no
permanent record of your address when you connect.
The things which do allow for discovery are:
Reading the inform.php website at startup
Reading nodes.config at startup
Receiving a message with data in it whose DataSource field points
at another node. This would either be an DataInsert or a
DataReply message.

I think the current mechanisms will probably allow for plenty of
