Ok, on Oskar's suggestion I think we should adopt a scheme as used in Linux where at every release a version will be branched off that will be the "stable" version. This can continue up until 1.0 when we can adopt a more linux-like structure (there is no point in having "development" releases since that is what the CVS snapshots are!).
All CVS users should take a close look at: http://www.loria.fr/~molli/cvs/doc/cvs_5.html To find out how branching works with CVS. I will branch it tomorrow some-time so PLEASE no significant new features before then! Once it is branched we can separate out efforts to make the stable version work, and the development version. What would be really cool, as I have said several times before, is to automatically generate binaries, now we can automatically generate stable binaries (from the latest branched version in CVS) and development binaries (from the current normal version in CVS). We need someone with a reliable server who is comfortable with CVS and cron - any volunteers?
