Putting my sysadmin hat on for a moment, I watch for all traffic not
headed for one of the popular ports like 21, 22, 23, 25, 80, 110, etc.
Grab an old 486, set it up to not respond to anything on the network,
put it on the same physical segment of the network of anything I want to
actually watch, sniff every packet going by.
