Well, it wouldn't let me have an 8192 bit key. Oh well. :-) I just
figured that CPU speed is going up exponentially, so the cost of
encoding and decoding PGP is going down very fast... but the cost of
cracking is also going down- just not as fast. So, I figure if
keylengths keep pace with CPU speeds (double every 24 months, say)
then eventually we'll see no perceived cost to encrypting and
decrypting and the spooks/competitors/thieves will see amazing cost
at trying to crack our keys.
But I'm no expert, maybe just paranoid.
You know, you could put keys into freenet and use the fingerprint as
the file key to get them out.
