You're modeling the positive reinforcement voting method, where the more votes exist, the more likely the document is to be selected. Two problems w/ this: 1. People are lazy. They want their data, and may not choose to vote. This means that good data is harmed by lazy users 2. People can flood vote. Nevermind that they can only propogate those votes to their node, they can still flood vote. A better solution is to have people vote *against* data. Those two angles again: 1. People are lazy. But people want *good* data, and are more likely to get upset when what they get *isn't* what they wanted, and so will vote down. 2. People can flood vote. But if voting is down-voting, then people cannot inflate the importance of their own bogus data.
