So the reasons for this are:

1) To reduce the possibility that an individual developer might get sued
   since there is now a more appropriate target
   (There may be some legal things developers need to do to ensure this
   happens - watch this space)
2) To act as a focus for donations to the project which could be used to
   pay someone full-time to code
