I'm a law student, so these issues interest me. This summer, I am going to
write a generic legal brief that can be used by an American Freenet node
operator who is taken to court by either a copyright owner or the
government (in the case of allegations of criminal copyright infringement
or distributing obscenity). The brief will be freely distributable, of
course.

Also, this can't be construed as legal advice, but I for one have tried to
take advantage of the protections given to ISPs by the DMCA by registering
my node with the Copyright Office and putting a notice on the computer
that runs my node. See http://troyboy.dyndns.org.
