It wouldn't be at all hard to write a think cash feedback system which used SMTP. You'd just add a think cash authentication stage to the file insertion layer and then any think cash authenticated key index insertion would pop up a think cash dialog. It's somewhat analagous to authorization realms for web sites. You point your browser at the web site. It interrupts you with a login/password dialog. You type it in. It continues on as normal. I'm considering integrating optional think cash support into IndexClient as it seems popular among the freesite publishers. Integrating it into IndexClient would of course make it automatically integrated into EOF SMTP. The question is how to come up with system which is generalized enough to implement in a generic way and how to indicate whether an index uses think cash authentication or not so that the library will know when to use it. _______________________________________________ Devl mailing list Devl at freenetproject.org http://lists.freenetproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devl >From - Wed May 2 08:53:11 2001 Return-Path: <devl-admin at freenetproject.org> Received: from hawk.freenetproject.org (postfix@[4.18.42.11]) by funky.danky.com (8.9.3/8.8.7) with ESMTP id XAA26722 for <danello at danky.com>; Mon, 30 Apr 2001 23:52:26 -0400 Received: from hawk.freenetproject.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by hawk.freenetproject.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 29B1358008; Mon, 30 Apr 2001 21:33:02 -0700 (PDT) Delivered-To: devl at freenetproject.org Received: from fins.uits.indiana.edu (fins.uits.indiana.edu [129.79.6.185]) by hawk.freenetproject.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8B02D57FEF for <devl at freenetproject.org>; Mon, 30 Apr 2001 21:32:44 -0700 (PDT) Received: from obsidian.dtdns.net (mail at wi-82-133.willkie.indiana.edu [149.159.82.133]) by fins.uits.indiana.edu (8.10.1/8.10.1/IUPO) with ESMTP id f414RN819119 for <devl at freenetproject.org>; Mon, 30 Apr 2001 23:27:23 -0500 (EST) Received: from scgmille by obsidian.dtdns.net with local (Exim 3.22 #1 (Debian)) id 14uRkx-0001xj-00 for <devl at freenetproject.org>; Mon, 30 Apr 2001 23:27:23 -0500 To: devl at freenetproject.org Subject: Re: [freenet-devl] FCP Layer #3: Stacks Message-ID: <20010430232723.A7509 at indiana.edu> References: <20010430164655.B12935 at freenetproject.org> <Pine.OSF.4.33.0104301853400.22403-100000 at moe.cc.utexas.edu> <20010430171859.C12935 at freenetproject.org> <20010430235204.B835 at execpc.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="cNdxnHkX5QqsyA0e" Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.3.17i In-Reply-To: <20010430235204.B835 at execpc.com>; from bemann at execpc.com on Mon, Apr 30, 2001 at 11:52:04PM -0400 From: "Scott G. You don't > want to be trying to solve puzzles when you really just want to send > your email or post messages. There are only two ways I can think of to have a communications system with a public address that isn't mechanically spammable: 1) Think Cash. BTW, I don't really agree that they wont work in practice,= =20 you can make a puzzle that is trivial for a human but difficult for a machine. Not just trivial, but even fairly non-intrusive. =20 2) Cryptographic permission based email. This would entail generating a 'credit' that you give to a person you want to email you. He/she can perform a calculation with the credit and say the day/hour when the email will be sent. Your email client then checks for the key that=20 calculation generates. Only the people you issue credits to can=20 send you email. For this reason its no good for email where just anybody can send you something. For that you need (1) or you issue a few credits and post them on your freesite and hope they dont colide. --cNdxnHkX5QqsyA0e Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.4 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE67jsrr9IW4v3mHtQRArmJAJ0YVmeMxxN6wQh76Yx+0dYeCX2oYwCfbxVp 0fkHNrnHUCH3qc6Kiqsfqpk= =7qkA -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --cNdxnHkX5QqsyA0e-- _______________________________________________ Devl mailing list Devl at freenetproject.org http://lists.freenetproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devl >From - Wed May 2 08:53:12 2001 Return-Path: <devl-admin at freenetproject.org> Received: from hawk.freenetproject.org (postfix@[4.18.42.11]) by funky.danky.com (8.9.3/8.8.7) with ESMTP id AAA26791 for <danello at danky.com>; Tue, 1 May 2001 00:01:25 -0400 Received: from hawk.freenetproject.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by hawk.freenetproject.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A8D425803B; Mon, 30 Apr 2001 21:42:01 -0700 (PDT) Delivered-To: devl at freenetproject.org Received: from kayak.charm.net (unknown [209.143.91.188]) by hawk.freenetproject.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3673C57FEF for <devl at freenetproject.org>; Mon, 30 Apr 2001 21:41:26 -0700 (PDT) Received: from localhost (IDENT:chris at localhost [127.0.0.1]) by kayak.charm.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id AAA11750 for <devl at freenetproject.org>; Tue, 1 May 2001 00:31:18 -0400 From: Chris Anderson <[email protected]> X-Sender: chris at kayak.charm.net To: devl at freenetproject.org Subject: Re: [freenet-devl] FCP Layer #3: Stacks In-Reply-To: <20010430232723.A7509 at indiana.edu> Message-ID: <Pine.LNX.4.21.0105010027160.11646-100000 at kayak.charm.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: devl-admin at freenetproject.org
