Winstaller Test Report - freenet_setup0.3.9.1-2.exe Environments: 1) Windows 2000, clean install 2) Windows 2000, install over top of a previous installation 3) Windows 98SE, onto virgin ghosted image
Results: 1) Installation: Successful (all environments) 2) Startup: Successful (all environments) 3) Configurator: Successful (all environments) (see comment 2 below) 4) GateWay invocation: Successful (all environments) 5) FreeSite Browse: Successful (all environments) 6) Preservation of configs with superimposed installation: Successful Comments: 1) The decision to return to the Java configurator is wise - the native windows one is far from ready for use 2) On Windows 98SE, the Java configurator, and the main freenet.exe, would be far better to use the console-based java rather than javaw.exe. Problems with the console java are: (i) this causes the black DOS box to show when running the configurator - ugly but harmless (ii) when closing the configurator, windows displays a dialog which can be misconstrued as telling the user that Freenet itself will terminate This should be fixed - javaw is the more appropriate Java binary. Fitness for release: Windows 2000 - excellent - highly worthy of release Windows 98/ME - fair - worthy of release (just) - should either revert to javaw.exe or take steps to disguise the black dos box and prevent the shutdown dialog from appearing No apologies for playing the role of a finicky hard-assed test engineer - aim is to reduce user hassles and emails to support list.
