Ian, I agree with your instinct to release something useful as soon
as possible. Arguing about what to call it (0.5 , 0.4 +, etc.) doesn't
interest me. At the risk of (re?) stating the obvious, Freenet is a
pretty complicated thing. I doubt it will ever be made to work correctly
without significant debugging and tuning of a relatively large collection of
nodes in the wild.

Until the DataStore bug is killed, it will be impossible to keep such a
collection of nodes running, so I think that fixing it has to be the projects
highest priority. It would be good if whatever is known about this bug could
be dumped into the Wiki. I would be great if Tavin came through with a
perfectly debugged DataStore implementation, but we shouldn't wait for him.
One good side effect of an "all hands on deck" debugging session would be to
get more eyes across this crucial component of the system.

There are also issues with the connection management which are pretty
severe. I kind of wonder whether there's any real routing happening
in the current network, or whether nodes are just desperately
connecting to any node that answers them. I've been working on this a
little since DC. I know Oskar also has some ideas. I think that
between us we can probably get things cleaned up relatively quickly
(I also doubt that Oskar will share my optimism ;-) ).
