I have been testing out other CP decay schemes. There are several that work better than the current code, but I run into the problem that the node seems to burn too many mips in the degenerate case where many failed outbound connections are attempted (~= 40 - 100 attempts/minute). I am working on bounding the number of attempts made to a give node ref per unit time.
But, I wonder, what is the crypto cost for making a new connection and when do you pay it? Has anyone profiled fred lately?
