I never really intended them to be an end user tool. I assumed that most people wouldn't use them most of the time.
I gave them fine grained switches so that you could only turn on what you need. Enabling these monitoring functions does take up resources, memory, extra object creations (and possibly extra reverse DNS lookups???) to get the hostnames used for the per-host stats.
