I don't usually pipe up I just listen but surely this idea would be of
benefit to freenets transient users? I don't know alot about the workings of
freenet it's beyond me, but surely something that helps users remain
anonymous is a good thing... 24/7 node runners are fine as nodes pass
requests backwards and forwards all the time, but from my understanding
transient nodes only receive the results of the data that they request,
meaning that the requests from a transient node are quite obvious if you
are looking for them which in certain area's of the globe that could be
classed as a failing of the system.

Subject: [freenet-dev] Making better use of transient nodes

I see that a number of people are keen to find a way to better-use nodes
which may not be up 24/7, but are up a lot.

One solution is for each node to maintain some metadata with their
reference, basically 24 values, each the probability that they will be
online in each hour of the day (relative to GMT).

This data could be passed around with the nodes reference, and factored
into the contact probability for that node.

I assume that many nodes that are not up 24/7, will be up at reasonably
predictable hours of the day.

Having said that, I am really not sure if this is worth the effort.

Ian.
