Permissions? I am on Windows! ;) Actually, if neither a "node-temp" nor
a "node" file exists, Freenet DOES create the "node-temp" file in the
very same directory the "node" file is supposed to be created.

I attached the snipped debug-level log from the first phase of my previous
log ("starting situation: NO "node" file, NO "node-temp" file"). But
I doubt it will be useful. It actually says "Written node file", but
this is a lie and there are no errors reported near that line.

BTW: Did you read "[freenet-support] no node file"
http://hawk.freenetproject.org:8080/pipermail/support/2003-
March/002705.html and "[freenet-support] Node integration problem"
http://hawk.freenetproject.org:8080/pipermail/support/2003-
March/002600.html ?

PS: I forget to tell: build number is 574

PPS: @Niklas Bergh: I still use Windows 2000 ...
