According to the same (possibly faulty) measure my node now, after 18 hours
of uptime, has a 77% success ratio. That ratio is still significantly better
than it was earlier. Can anyone give me a hint on how to judge if my node
manages to locate data more effectively because of this increased success
ratio.

I will try your patch after the weekend or so.
