We cannot depend on a non-standard JVM. And according to the Aug 31
update it has some serious issues!

Excellent!! This is the preferred solution.

We may however want to defer using continuations to 0.8 or even 0.9; it
depends whether we have practical performance problems. Certainly I have
seen OOM: cannot create thread, although I have no idea why; after a
dump later on there were very few threads running.
