Well that could be still the case (I mentioned it at #freenet-es and
some other channel (#freenet-se?) when I saw it) but wasn't the thing I
wanted to point at.

The install sections (e.g. QuickStart) sometimes explain how things were
done with older installers. Now some things have changed:

- - we use a new java based installer, which provides different options
than the older one (e.g. no extended or poweruser mode)

- - does running another freenet node during install cause problems
anymore? (worked well for me, during a test install) but this is a minor
issue.

- - we do have a install wizard (http://127.0.0.1:8888/wizard/) and a full
featured config-page so as long as the node starts up properly we
probably don't want to edit the freenet.ini by hand (we could provide
the corresponding option in the freenet.ini for advanced users though
but we don't want to make this the default procedure as it's likely to
produce errors)

- - has someone tested the offline installer recently? I tried it with the
steps and installer provided some weeks ago, but it failed

there's probably more but I don't remember and I didn't go through all
the pages. Somethings I just fixed on the go (e.g. install java on
ubuntu systems on the Prerequisites) but I would appreciate it if
someone had a look at it because 1. I'm German and although I think I
can make myself understood I'm not a native speaker and might have got
some things wrong (doesn't look nice if the first thing you see is a
mistake) 2. my system is localized to the German language (I don't mean
freenet, that is easily changed on the go, but my OS) so I can only
guess what some dialogue boxes say in English

I think if we keep the wiki and website up to date and do some
walkthrough tests once in a while we will significantly reduce traffic
on the IRC and therefore have less work.

Also if one information is outdated (like for example the install
section) people tend to think other parts of the site aren't up to date
too (e.g. the whole "how freenet works" stuff, which usually is being
kept up to date) and stop reading, which leads to even more questions on
IRC.

This is not a problem _now_ but if we really get slashdotted or
announced in some other well visited tech-site (which _will_ happen if
we release a Beta or even a 0.7.0) people will come and ask questions
(or even worse don't ask them and uninstall immediately) and if they hit
our channel and it's very crowded in there and everyone asks the same
questions (just because of wrong manuals) they will get pissed off
(sorry for the wording) (and we will get pissed off too).

So in general we need a more up to date documentation because RTFS (read
the f***ing source) is not an option, especially not when it comes to
installing an app and get it running.
