IIRC it's for substituting keywords with edition numbers so you can easily 
refer to the next/prev editions. This isn't really useful with USKs.

I don't know. It's probably not useful though - most images will be within the 
main container for a small site. Which is a zip file. If they're not, well, 
they'll be compressed if and only if they are smaller compressed.
