Christian,

KICAD_RUN_FROM_BUILD_DIR is an environment variable that needs to be set
when running KiCad, not something you should set in your cmake config.

i.e. when running from the build dir from a shell, you can run it with
prompt> KICAD_RUN_FROM_BUILD_DIR=1 ./kicad/kicad &

Alternatively, persist it in your shell with `export` or equivalent before
running KiCad.

I'm sure you can also set it up to run this way in an IDE if you use one
but I'm not familiar.
