Hello.
First of all, thank you for all your work on the devnag/devanagari
package. I am using devnag for some work on the Vedas. In the process,
I have developed a query/suggested improvement for the functionality
of the devanagari package as it stands.
The work involves transliterating the Sanskrit Vedic hymns into
English. This requires that, not only do I use the standard LaTeX
commands to produce accented letters of the Roman alphabet, but that I
supply intonation markings similar to the ones provided by the Rig
Veda macros of the devanagari package, *to the Roman letters
themselves*.
Can the devanagari package do this at current?
There is a partial solution. To produce, say, an upward intonation
accent on a Roman letter, for example 'a', we can use the command
{\dn\dnveda\|{\NormalFont <a>}}, which works fine. The problem is that
we run into trouble when attempting to do this to an accented Roman
letter such as \={a} or ā. In this case, when applying the previous
command to this accented letter, the devnag preprocessor is unable to
the place the intonation accent above the bar and instead shifts the
bar to below the letter (as though it has been underlined) and places
the intonation accent above the 'a', producing something like *a* with
an upward intonation accent above it.
Do you know of the solution to this?
And finally, a possible suggestion: is it possible in the package at
current to adjust the vertical spacing between upward and downward
intonation accents (both above and below letters) and the actual
letters themselves? I ask because sometimes the upward intonation
accents can appear too close to the letters themselves, making it
confusing to read.
Thank you very much for at least reading this email.
All the best,
Sentooran
