I would not insist to much on the fact that XWiki use MessageTool, that's the currently supported syntax but it's just one syntax from new l10n module point of view and I think we should move away from it when we will have some time and introduce a new syntax (we need variables, the way we deal with ' character is not very nice, etc.).
