My plan so far has been to use OO to convert everything to ods
and then write js for extracting information from the ods xml
document, modifying it, then merging it back in without breaking
unsupported features such as formatting and font.
Then it can be converted back to xls or whatever OO supports.
Thanks,
Caleb

I think you'll have the same issue with xls. You need both the formula and the
calculated value for xls or odd unless you have a calculing backend (like
libreoffice).
Note that the excel plugin we have only supports excel 2003 files in writing.
Not sure about 2010 in reading and for sure xlsx and ods is not supported.
Going with libre/OpenOffice might be best.

I will create an issue for it, it looks possible to implement but not trivial
since the exported JSON from jquery.sheet will contain only the unevaluated
formulae which will then have to be evaluated manually. I think typical users
will care more about being able to edit attached spreadsheets so I plan to
prioritize ODS/XLS editing unless you disagree.

Hi,
I believe you still should support calculations in XWiki Tables, however
you should store the formula with some hidden format (as a comment) and
show the last calculated value from JQuery Sheet.

Hi,
Thanks for the language bug report I will file that as soon as I have the
JIRA working (later today). The lack of calculations is because they were
manually turned off in configuration so as not to introduce features which
are not supported by XWiki Tables, of course these are a top priority for
spreadsheet attachment editing.
Thanks,
Caleb

Hi Caleb,
Great stuff. I just tried it out. Installation was immediate.
I found one issue with multilingual. Although my wiki was in mono-lingual
and french, it retrieved the english version of the sandbox document.
This
might be a REST issue.
Another issue but is probably a feature for now is that I was not able to
do calculations in the spreadsheet. I tested on Chrome.

Hi all,
I'm proud to announce that after a few weeks of hectic downtime I
finally
got XWiki.TableEdit extension finished. XWiki.TableEdit allows you to
edit
wiki tables as if they were spreadsheets using the jquery.sheet
in-browser
spreadsheet editor.
Internally XWiki.TableEdit is an exiting foray into a new frontier of
modular
javascript, relying entirely on Asynchronous Modular Definition to load
it's
component parts. ( https://github.com/amdjs/amdjs-api/wiki/AMD )
XWiki.TableEdit is still in it's infancy, future plans include editing
of
spreadsheets in attachments, conversion of the loading and saving APIs
to
the
simple REST-like JIO standard ( http://www.j-io.org/ ) so that others
can
more
easily develop similar editors, and porting the entire widget from
painful
hand written javascript to simple HTML5 based on renderjs
( http://www.renderjs.org/ ) which can be installed in other
frameworks.
More information about the extension:
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/XWiki+TableEdit
I'd love to hear your feedback, especially browsers where it doesn't
work.
xwiki-contrib JIRA project coming soon..
Thanks,
Caleb
