Then you should read http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome in order to set up your work environment. Next you should check the open issues ( http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI/component/11160 , for the message stream) and try to investigate/fix one of them to get an idea of how the code is organized.
