There may be different "use-cases", in the samples you provide, having some
quote symbols could be nice.
In an email thread or forum replies, usually there aren't quote symbols,
but it's more like it is currently (vertical bar on the left), because
there can easily be several levels of quotes.
For example for this kind of stuff:

>> something
> more
>> more
end
... seems not obvious were to put quote symbols to get something readable
... In the old {quote} radeox macro, you had a structured way of providing
the "source" for the quote, for this kind you would expect quote symbols.
