The more fundamental question is: do we need to support both with the same sources?
My claim is that this is close to impossible, especially if one wants to leave a lot of freedom to the developers to layout the source the way they want. If the sources do not need to be equal (i.e. a source project does not need round-tripping equality) then I think we're safe.
