I used to have a binary that would fake a BOOTP requestion
against my servers, which turned out to be a fair way to
test if the server was up and working.

I'm assuming I could do this with the ISC dhclient also,
but I could figure how to fake a lease, i.e. hardcode in
a chaddr, or otherwise do some sort of fixed request.

Yeah, I know, I could do this with a dynamic, but I typically
monitor from Unix servers or places where we don't want the
actual interface monkeyed with.

So... anyone faking requests using the dhclient?
Or other good test method?

Thanks!
