It is true that I never intend to function in a portable environment in my
case, so I can get away with expecting the previous lease information being
programmed into the interface when I don't receive a new DHCPOFFER. I guess
what I am trying to say is that regardless of whether or not I have
connectivity, I shouldn't get a "network unreachable" error from ping
(indicating the route table is not set up). I was expecting the interface
and route table to be programmed from the old lease info and therefore I
would receive a timeout from not seeing a response from the other side when
I had my connectivity issue.

But isn't the idea of resorting to the previous lease so that the interface
will be fully operational, routes and all, in the event of a lack of a
DHCPOFFER? Perhaps have I gotten a mistaken impression from somewhere. If
it is that the old lease info is not intended be re-programmed into the
interface and route table, then that's fine. It doens't matter to me if the
ping is there or not, I prefer it to be there myself.

In any case, thanks to you and for all who worked hard developing and
testing this software. It had been very useful to me and it saved me from a
need to implement a M$ solution just to talk ADSL!
