Thanks for the very quick reply! This was indeed the problem. I have to say it's very hard to get started with this system. Before I tried to find the difference between tracker and aggregate types in the user manual but I couldn't find it. I (wrongly) assumed I needed trackers since a lot of my dimensions are values that cannot be aggregated anyway.


I really appreciate your help. Can you recommend any (free) training besides the user/dev manuals? Like a handbook of sorts.

could it be that you set the "Domain type" property of the data elements to "Tracker" rather than "Aggregate"? Data sets are for aggregate data, and you can therefore only add data elements with domain type aggregate.
