hmmm, running autogen.sh I get the following errors:

I am going to run ./configure with no arguments - if you wish
to pass any to it, please specify them on the ./autogen.sh command line.
Running gettextize... Ignore non-fatal messages.
./autogen.sh: gettextize: command not found
Running libtoolize
aclocal: configure.in: 13: macro `AM_DISABLE_STATIC' not found in library
aclocal: configure.in: 14: macro `AM_PROG_LIBTOOL' not found in library
aclocal: configure.in: 88: macro `AM_GNU_GETTEXT' not found in library
aclocal: configure.in: 109: macro `AM_PATH_GDK_IMLIB' not found in library
/usr/local/bin/autoheader: Symbol `WITH_SYMBOL_UNDERSCORE' is not covered by

configure.in: 88: required file `./ABOUT-NLS' not found
Makefile.am:3: required directory ./intl does not exist
loading cache ./config.cache
./configure: syntax error near unexpected token `AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(dia,'
./configure: ./configure: line 534: `AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(dia, 0.30)'

ahhh, the joy of macros...(I suspect a couple of problems could be
resolved downloading appropriate packages like gettext, gdk-imlib etc., right ?)

wouldn't it make sense to release a new version (say, dia-0.40) ?
It seems that you added a couple of nice things (new UML objects, image abstraction,
UI features etc.) which make this step worth while !
