Well, the eps generated explictly sets the font encoding to latin-1. This
means only chars in the Latin 1 code can be printed. There might be some
program (like ogonkify for polish conversion) that converts to the correct
encoding.

In the older version no explicit encoding at all was specified. That meant
only 7bit asciicould be used..,
