Hi,

I have this weird file here from a home work I was doing.
I build it with the libxml that came with RedHat 6.1 (1.7.3 i think, I don't have the
CD here to reinstall it and re-test) and did the work I had to do pretty well.
Today I remembered to upgrade libxml to 1.8.3 (1.8.4 was not avaible at Veillard's
ftp site as announced - he probably forgot to put it there) and I could not load the
ER diagram I had built.
Shudder... I felt... then I though it must be related to the libxml version, so I
removed dia and recompiled it.
It would not open the compressed file.
I uncompressed it by hand, and dia could open it. Phew! Now.. the problem starts...

I loaded er4 and saved it as er5.
Oh ho! I can't open it (compressed or not), since dia will then alert me that: Error
loading diagram er5. Not a Dia file.
 [rms@nietzche proj]$ file er4
 er4: ASCII text
 [rms@nietzche proj]$ file er5
 er5: ASCII text
 [rms@nietzche proj]$ ls -laF er4 er5
 -rw-rw-r-- 1 rms rms 175802 Jan 9 13:07 er4
 -rw-rw-r-- 1 rms rms 156065 Jan 9 13:16 er5

the new file is somewhat smaller even though not compressed, even though I have
ordered dia to compress files.

I attatch the following relevant files so you can take a peek at them:
er3 => original file from before upgrading libxml
er4 => gunzip'ed copy of er3 which dia can open
er5 => er4 saved by dia after recompiling

yours, rms
