question on font size/other metrcs

hi,

I am testing dial 0.84 to replace xfig I have been using. One thing I
found rather confusing and frustrated is the metrics control for font and
line. Usually (for me) I expect to see font size as 10pt, 12pt, ...,
instead dia use 1 as default, what is the relationship and reasoning
behind? i guess the same question goes to line control.
