I often draw pictures with xfig for my LaTeX documents. I would love
to use Dia (the user interface is waaay better), but there is no
LaTeX special text -feature like in xfig. With xfig, if I want LaTeX
to typeset a formula and I want to embed it to my picture, I just
write the LaTeX commands as text, e.g. "$\frac{x^2}{\sqrt{y}}$", and
mark the text "special".

Then I can export the picture into two files: a LaTeX file containing
the commands to typeset the text and place them to the correct places,
and an EPS file which contains the rest of the image. The export
language in xfig is called "pstex". Both the EPS part and the LaTeX
part can then be included in a normal LaTeX document and the PS and
LaTeX parts of the image will be overlaid producing an image with
formulas (or whatever) typeset beatifully with LaTeX.

Anybody care to implement this kind of functionality in Dia ?)
