custom shape distance algorithm

I checked in a new (correct) distance algorithm for the custom shape code
on CVS over the weekend.  This means that custom shapes do not act like a
rectangle when you try to select them.

Of course the new code is more complicated, so it is a bit slower.  I
couldn't detect much of a slowdown on my tests, but I didn't experiment
much with larger diagrams.
