trouble connecting UML associations to classes

Hello,

        I'm having a difficult time getting the ends of association,
        generalizations etc to attach to a class. If I keep clicking
        over the selection handle ( the little green box ),
        eventually I can get it to attach, at which point it turns
        red. It takes forever though...

        Is there some key combination or some other technique that
        makes this easier?
