This is similar to the roving broadband I have seen in the Dominican
Republic, through Verizon. For a few more dollars a month, in DR, one
can get access to the internet within cities from Verizon. The catch is
that you have to pay for the broadband at home, and of course that has
issues with who has wired where...

Always interesting to see how legislation affects technology in the
developing world. What's also interesting is how countries that have
active US forces are mimicking the U.S. legislation on many things.

Where privacy was a concern within the United States, it is no longer so
because of the Patriot Act. Proliferation of email scanning programs
such as Carnivore are rampant throughout the developing world anyway;
especially when using U.S. based email accounts (Google, Yahoo, hotmail,
etc...). While this level of scanning is not the same as employer level
scanning, it is an interesting thing to consider as we work toward
decreasing the digital divide.

Technology enabling content, and more importantly discussion.

For people interested, I'd suggest following one of these links to the
Reuters site and subscribing. For some odd reason, the U.S. based site
doesn't have all the functionality.
