I agree that the slashdot effect can help visibility, though
linkdropping can have the opposite effect, a sort of backlash, if you
are too blatant about it.
Also, pointing people to a more general category in a directory, such
as
<http://dmoz.org/Society/Issues/Science_and_Technology/Computers/
Internet/Digital_Divide/> or
<http://dir.yahoo.com/Social_Science/
Science__Technology__and_Society_Studies/Digital_Divide/> can't hurt
the cause.
