The Project

Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript is an award-winning open source project,
as used by NASA, that facilitates the printing of all major barcode
symbologies entirely within level 2 PostScript. Hence the process of
generating a printed barcode representing a given input is performed
entirely within the printer (or print system) so that it is no longer the
responsibility of your application or a library. There is no need for any
barcode fonts and the flexibility gained by this approach allows you to
avoid re-implementing barcode generator code, or migrating to new libraries,
whenever your project language needs change.

It makes including any barcode within a PostScript document as simple as
inserting the following directive:

(1-86074-271) (includetext) isbn barcode"

 " Planned upgrade

Because of a pending shortage in certain ISBN categories, the International
Organization for
Standardization<http://psychcentral.com/psypsych/International_Organization_for_Standardization>(ISO)
will migrate to a thirteen-digit ISBN starting on 1
January <http://psychcentral.com/psypsych/1_January>
2007<http://psychcentral.com/psypsych/2007>.
This move will also bring the ISBN system into line with the
UPC<http://psychcentral.com/psypsych/Universal_Product_Code>barcode
system. There is an FAQ
document <http://www.collectionscanada.ca/iso/tc46sc9/isbn.htm> (*
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/iso/tc46sc9/isbn.htm*) about this change."
