Greeting all!

The Second Annual Illinois Community Technology Conference is almost upon
us, but there is still time to register! We want you there.

What's it all about? The conference is our place to gather once a year to
share resources and experiences.

Be at the heart of the Community Technology Profession in the Midwest.

This year, the Illinois Community Technology Conference (November 16-17,
2005) http://www.ctcnetchicago.org/conference
Is being held in coordination with the Illinois Telecommunications
Conference at the Public Affairs Center at the University of Illinois at
Springfield.

We have a full conference day on November 16, and a dedicated conference
track on November 17th. Furthermore, there is a free reception on November
16th at the Abraham Lincoln Library on the "Future of Digital Literacy"
http://www.communitydevelopment.uiuc.edu/Telecom2005/reception.html and
plenty of room at the Share Fair to show what your CTC is made of!

On the 16th we're offering sessions on Youth Programs, Spanish Language
Resources, Refurbishing/Recycling hardware, Fundraising and Grantwriting,
Collaboration and Evaluation. Luncheon Discussion will center on Volunteer
and Community Based Organizations' Response in times of Crisis and Natural
Disaster. We'll have special guests including Angela Stuber of CTCNet
National.

The November 17 conference features telecommunications innovations in
Illinois communities and new options for development. Highlights include:
Broadband access in rural Illinois, rural telehealth innovations and
demonstrations, funding opportunities for technology projects and
grant-writing, workshops designed for community technology centers, small
community success stories, and collaboration building for communities as
they strive to eliminate the digital divide in Illinois.

What about the Share Fair? The Share Fair is a place to showcase what your
CTC has to offer. What do you do right that might help other CTCs? To
participate please visit http://www.ctcnetchicago.org/sharefair

How do I register? Conference Registration is still open for both November
16 and November 17: https://webs.aces.uiuc.edu/telecom/

We want to bring Volunteers or Community Participants, is there a discounted
rate?

We can offer a limited number of discounted seats for (unpaid) Communiity
Participants from your CTC. This is especially appropropriate if you are
bringing students or volunteers to the Share Fair. Please call me at
773-456-7737.

What is the best way to get there?

Probably by car. Share a ride!

If you need public transport… Amtrak offers three daily trains between
Chicago and Springfield, in each direction. Rates vary depending on when
booked. Also, my experience is that service into Chicago has not been on
time… http://www.amtrak.com

Can I share a ride? Is there organized transportation?

Conference attendees may be staying for the full conference November 16 and
17, or for just one day, and some may be coming and attending for one of the
conference days and the Reception at the Abraham Lincoln Library on November
16th. Therefore we are not coordinating a direct transport between Chicago
and Springfield. However, we are interested in assisting coordination of a
van or vans from Chicago for small groups. If your organization has access
to a vehicle and can provide such transport, please contact me at
773-456-7737.

Also, anyone willing to provide coordination for ride-sharing, please let
us know!

Where can I stay at a low price? There are some great hotel rates at Motel
6 in Springfield…. Less than $45 for quadruple occupancy!

Is there any way I can help? Certainly! Aside from sharing rides or travel
and lodging expenses with other attendees, we need people willing to capture
video at the event, and generally to get the word out to drive attendance.
If you are able to help us promote this event, contact me directly at
773-456-7737.

We're looking for help in planning next years conference. Do you want to be
on the planning committee? Let us know now!

Please register soon so we are better able to accommodate you at the
conference.

Regards,

Michael Maranda
